The 6th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) took place on 29 November 2021 in Barcelona, Spain, in the framework of the celebrations of the first Day of the Mediterranean. The Forum gathered in Barcelona the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the 42 UfM Member States and will be chaired by the UfM Co-Presidency, assumed by the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi.
The conference was preceded, on the same day also in Barcelona, a European Union-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting to review the progress in the implementation of the new Agenda for the Mediterranean.
UfM Side Event on Regional Integration
On the occasion of the Regional Forum, the UfM Secretariat also organized a side-event to yield the key takeaways of the first UfM Progress Report on Regional Integration, which informed future activities by the UfM and its Member States on promoting economic regional integration over the coming years. The Report, commissioned by the UfM to the OECD, provides key findings and policy recommendations in trade, finance, infrastructure, movement of people, and research and higher education.
