“On the Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights… where do we stand in achieving it!? This declaration was not just a legal text; it was a promise of a better future for all of humanity. Yet, to this day, we still lack a true celebration of this global day, which is meant to be a culmination of humanity’s achievements in elevating the value and dignity of the human being. We continue to witness flagrant violations of human rights in many parts of the world. We still call on officials, rulers, and institutions to adhere to international laws and protect the dignity of the human being who stands helpless in the face of ruthless injustice and violations that disrespect the sanctity of life and the inviolability of the law. Believing in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we at the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development have made the promotion of human rights a key focus of our programs. We strive, through education and awareness, and our membership in the “Youth Network” of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), to advocate, raise awareness, and build communities that recognize the importance of respecting human rights as a foundation for development and urbanization. “في ذكرى الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان… أين نحن من تحقيقه؟”
هذا الإعلان لم يكن مجرد نص قانوني؛ بل هو وعد بمستقبل أفضل للبشرية جمعاء. لا زلنا حتى اليوم نفتقد الاحتفال الحقيقي بهذا اليوم العالمي، الذي يفترض أن يكون تتويجًا لإنجازات البشرية في إعلاء قيمة الإنسان وكرامته.
مازلنا نشهد انتهاكات صارخة تطال حقوق الإنسان في بقاع كثيرة من العالم. ما زلنا نناشد المسؤولين/ات، حكامًا ومؤسسات، بضرورة الالتزام بالقوانين الدولية، وحماية كرامة الإنسان الذي يقف عاجزًا أمام ظلم لا يرحم، وانتهاكٍ لا يحترم حرمة الدماء ولا قدسية القانون.
وإيمانًا منا بمبادئ الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان، جعلنا في مؤسسة شباب المتوسط للتنمية تعزيز حقوق الإنسان محورًا أساسيًا لبرامجنا.
نسعى من خلال التعليم والتثقيف، وعضويتنا في شبكة الشباب التابعة للمفوضية السامية لحقوق الإنسان، إلى المناصرة والتوعية وبناء مجتمعات تدرك أهمية احترام حقوق الإنسان كأساس للتنمية والتحضر.
