1- What is the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development (MYF)?

  • MYF, the first youth foundation oriented to Mediterranean countries, that has been established in the Arab Republic of Egypt in 2018. It is led by youth and aims to serve youth, by involving them in social life, especially youth who have less access to opportunities to promote their participation in building youth-friendly societies.

In addition, MYF is the first Egyptian foundation to win King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals, Youth Empowerment Category for 2020.It has also been awarded the United Nations and BMW Prize for Innovation and Intercultural Dialogue (Intercultural Innovation Hub – IIH) 2021.

Moreover, it has been accredited as a permanent observer member, to be the second Egyptian foundation in history to obtain permanent membership in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2022 and the Foundation has also been granted special advisory membership in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in 2023.

The Mediterranean Sea serves as a bridge for dialogue between the East and the West, acting as a convergence point for its three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. Its coastal regions have witnessed the radiance of knowledge and the unwavering pursuit of rights and freedom throughout history, hosting the ancient Greek civilization, being the cradle of the earliest civilizations, notably in ancient Egypt, as well as leaving a profound impact on the human spirit, as exemplified by the rich heritage of Al-Andalus.

Vision: We strive for the Mediterranean Youth Foundation to be the largest green sustainable international youth organization that has representation in the countries overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the neighboring ones; In the areas of youth empowerment of both genders as well as intercultural and intergenerational dialogue.
    2. Mission: Enhancing cultural and youth/women cooperation between countries overlooking the Mediterranean and neighboring countries through cultural exchange and international volunteer programs; With the aim of empowerment, communication and peace-building.

  4. Contributing to achieving and promoting the fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth, tenth, thirteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth SDGs.
  5. Enhancing youth participation to achieve peace, security and human fraternity.
  6. Involving youth who have less access to opportunities in social life.
  7. Empowering young women in societies with less access to opportunities and helping them navigate beyond borders.
  8. Building partnerships to exchange and apply best regional and international practices in the field of youth work.

  1. 2018: Establishment of the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development
  2. 2019: Obtaining the quality label from the European Union as a sending and hosting foundation to send/host volunteers to and from European Union countries.
  3. 2020: Obtaining the King Hamad Award (King of the Kingdom of Bahrain) for youth empowerment to achieve the sustainable development goals – the youth empowerment category.
  4. 2021: Obtaining the United Nations and BMW Prize for Innovation and Intercultural Dialogue (Intercultural Innovation Hub – IIH) 2021.
  5. 2022: Accreditation as a permanent observer member, to be the second Egyptian foundation in history to obtain permanent membership in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC
  6. 2023: Granted special advisory membership in the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
  1. Mediterranean Youth Foundation holds international accreditation as a Sending and Hosting Organization for volunteers from the European Solidarity Corps, with Accreditation Code OID: E10107382, (QL (016532-ESC52-FR02-1-2019.
  2. It is also registered in the European Union with a Pic Number: 902103008. In addition, it is a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, as well as registered by the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Egypt under no. 6563, in 2019, and registered centrally in the Central Administration of Associations and Federations under No. 982 of 2021.
  3. “Mediterranean Youth Foundation” is also registered in the NATO Coding System for Institutions (NCAGE) under the number SKAG3, registered in the Universal Data Numbering System with the identification number 813079013, and registered in the Official Grants Management System of the US Government (The System for Award Management) (SAM).
  • MYF receives funding from multiple sources:
    1. Networking: Mediterranean Youth Foundation pursues a policy of networking in most of its programs, which depends on addressing the relevant stakeholders to make various contributions (logistical – material – marketing – legal) to implement its programs or projects without incurring any costs or receiving any funds directly.
    2. Project financing opportunities: Mediterranean Youth Foundation follows up on support and financing opportunities launched by governments and regional and international organizations that fall within the scope of their work specified in the bylaws. The Foundation prepares project proposals and initiatives to obtain support (guiding – financial) after notifying the concerned authorities.
    3. Formal and informal support: Mediterranean Youth Foundation enjoys support from some official and non-official bodies in a number of countries to design and implement its various programs and projects by providing logistical support or facilitating the hosting of cross-border mobility programs.
    4. Personal contributions: Mediterranean Youth Foundation working team (founders – board of trustees – volunteers – supporters) provides various types of support if necessary.
    5. Voluntary Efforts: Voluntary efforts contribute significantly to the planning and implementation of the projects of Mediterranean Youth Foundation, which are carried out by young men and women from different countries, with different specializations, within the framework of training, capacity building, and participation in community work.
 
  • In order to be a member in the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development, the following conditions have to be met:
  • Applicant shall be at least 18 years and not older than 29 years old.
  • Applicant shall pay all financial obligations associated with acquiring the membership, if applicable, as determined by the Board of Trustees in a manner that is not in conflict with law.
  • Applicant shall be of good behavior and not deprived of the exercise of his civil rights. S/he shall not be subjected to any final judgments in a criminal or misdemeanor penalty for an offense against honor or honesty.
  • Applicant shall pass the personal interview with the Human Resources Office and Membership Affairs Office
  • Applicant shall meet the requirements of joining one of the organizational structure committees/offices.
